Who is responsible

vannkart.no is operated by Idar A. Johansen, who is the controller of the personal data for which vannkart.no determines the purposes of processing.

Privacy questions can be sent to [email protected].

You do not need to provide personal data

You do not need to create an account, log in or provide your name, email address or other contact details to use vannkart.no. The website has no contact form, newsletter or user register.

When you visit the website, technical information about your visit is nevertheless processed, including your IP address and information about your browser and device. This relates to hosting, external data sources, advertising and, if you consent, analytics.

Hosting

The website is hosted by Cloudflare Pages. When you visit vannkart.no, Cloudflare processes technical information needed to deliver and protect the website, including your IP address, time, requested page and technical connection information.

The legal basis is the legitimate interest in providing a stable and secure website. Cloudflare processes information on behalf of vannkart.no to the extent provided for in the service agreement and may also process certain information for its own purposes under its own privacy policy.

Lagringstid: Cloudflare states that personal data processed on behalf of vannkart.no is retained for the duration of the service agreement or until processing is no longer necessary to provide the service. Other retention periods may apply to processing for which Cloudflare itself is responsible.

Information may be processed outside the EEA. Cloudflare states that transfers to the USA may be based, among other things, on the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and EU standard contractual clauses. See Cloudflare’s privacy policy.

Advertising

vannkart.no is funded by advertising through Google AdSense. This allows the website to remain free and accessible without logging in.

Google and its advertising partners may process information such as your IP address, device and browser information, pages you visit, and identifiers stored in cookies or similar technology. This information is used, among other things, to deliver ads, measure ad impressions, prevent abuse and, if you consent, personalise ads.

For users in the EEA, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, consent is collected through a Google consent solution. It shows the relevant purposes and vendors and lets you choose what to consent to. The number of vendors is shown in the dialogue and may change over time.

Where processing requires consent, your consent is the legal basis. Google and vannkart.no are independent controllers for parts of the processing related to AdSense. The roles of other advertising vendors vary; their purposes and legal bases are shown in the consent dialogue.

Retention periods vary between Google and the various vendors and are determined by them. Google may process information outside the EEA, including on the basis of the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and EU standard contractual clauses.

See how Google uses information from sites that use its services and Google’s privacy policy. The current list of advertising partners is available in the consent dialogue under “List of partners”.

Analytics

If you consent to analytics, vannkart.no uses Google Analytics to see how many people visit the website and which pages are used.

The purpose is to understand how the website is used and improve its content. vannkart.no does not use Google Analytics to identify individuals. The legal basis is your consent.

The analytics tool is not loaded until you consent. If you decline, Google’s consent signal is set to “denied”, the tool is not loaded, and the website attempts to delete relevant cookies.

Lagringstid: both event data and user data are stored for 2 months. This is the shortest period offered by Google Analytics. The period is not extended if you visit the website again.

This setting applies to user-level and event-level information. Google may retain aggregated statistics, such as the number of visits in a given month, for longer without linking them to you.

vannkart.no is the controller for its use of Google Analytics, while Google normally processes the data on behalf of vannkart.no. Google may process information outside the EEA, including on the basis of the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and EU standard contractual clauses. See Google’s information on privacy in Analytics.

External data sources and services

To display measurements, weather, maps and other content, your browser needs to contact certain external services:

The fonts and map library used by the website itself are hosted on vannkart.no. Google’s consent dialogue additionally loads its own fonts from Google, which is outside vannkart.no’s control.

When your browser connects directly to these services, they receive technical information such as your IP address, time and other information needed to answer the request.

Some data is instead fetched by vannkart.no’s own server, so your browser only connects to vannkart.no:

For these sources, the third party receives our server’s IP address, not yours. The Norwegian Meteorological Institute and Statnett therefore receive no information about you as a visitor.

vannkart.no initiates these connections to deliver the content. Its legal basis is the legitimate interest in providing the website’s functions with as little information as possible. Each service is an independent controller for its further processing and determines its own retention periods.

Cookies and local storage

vannkart.no uses cookies and local storage in your browser:

vannkart.no has no database that receives your favourites list or consent choice. Both remain in your own browser.

Google and its advertising partners may additionally use cookies and similar technology to the extent you allow in the consent dialogue.

Changing or withdrawing consent

You can change or withdraw your consent at any time, and doing so should be as easy as giving it:

Withdrawing consent does not affect the lawfulness of processing that took place while your consent was valid.
